Renovations

This house has been the proverbial PITA in many ways. Not the place I would have chosen to live (it floods and it’s on a very busy street - I like my quiet,) nor the house I would have chosen either (I think the “Before” pix speak for themselves.). However due to circumstances we wound up with my in-law’s house of 40 years, a ca. 1955 “fixer-upper” in the worst way. The pictures on this page are some of the “before” pictures, others may be found on the individual project pages.

This is the den as it “came” with the house. Note the stickers on the window. a couple of the panes were cracked and had holes in them (apparently from being shot with BBs) so that I ended up replacing every pane in it

The kitchen, complete with asbestos tile and hole in floor. Not to mention wall.

The hallway. Seven foot ceiling, spang against the tops of the doors, along with a folding attic ladder that had never been trimmed out. Until I stuck a drywall screw into it, it also hung open a couple of inches which encouraged an arachnoid invasion.

The electrical service as it came with the house (shudder). About the first thing we did was have it upgraded to a 200 amp circuit breaker box. It took quite a chunk out of our working capital, but was well worth it.

The “access” that was covered up behind a wall under the spare bedroom/office. I had to tear the wall out so that the electrician could have access to connect up wires and lay the ground!
